Prior versions of the PicCon Controller used a RJ11 connection. This has always been a weak point in their design and has caused this author considerable problems in the past with bad connections. The newest version of the PicCon controller now uses a female DB9 connector.

I made a set of pigtails that convert existing RJ11 versions to the new DB9 connector. So that they will work with any previously wired systems, I followed Byron's wiring and connected as follows. I used hot melt glue to form a seal on the DB9 end.

  1. RJ11 pin No. 1 (PTT) to Pin 3 on the DB9
  2. RJ11 pin No. 2 (Radio Ground) to Pin 6 on the DB9
  3. RJ11 pin No. 3 (Transmit Audio, MIC) to Pin 1 on the DB9
  4. RJ11 pin No. 4 (Receive Audio, SPKR) to Pin 5 on the DB9
  5. RJ11 pin No. 5 (Positive DC Power) to Pin 7 on the DB9
  6. RJ11 pin No. 6 (DC Ground) to Pin 6 on the DB9
